T20 ranking: 3rd
T20 World Cup record
2007: Super Eights
2009: Runner-up
2010: Semi-finals
Coach: Graham Ford
Host nation Sri Lanka aim to become the first nation to win the T20 World Cup in their home country. This tournament may represent the last chance for some of their ageing veterans to claim the nations first piece of international silverware since the 1996 One Day World Cup.
Strengths: The Sri Lankan's have the advantage of playing in familiar conditions at home. They also have the tactical nous and batting abilities of Jayawardene, Sangakkara and Dilshan, not to mention to destructive bowling capabilities of Malinga and Ajantha Mendis.
Weaknesses: Playing at home may prove to be a double-edged sword as they will be under huge pressure to perform. Apart from Dilshan, their are not too many big hitters in the Sri Lanka batting order, which may may the big chases difficult.
Sri Lanka have acquired the bridesmaid tag in recent years which is something they are desperate to shed. They again appear to have the team to be there about, but not entirely convinced they can go all the way. They will back themselves to get out of the Group Eight stage.
