T20 World Cup record:
2007: Super Eights
2009: Semi-finalist
2010: Super Eights
Coach: Gary Kirsten
In August 2012 South Africa became the first nation to hold the No. 1 ranking in all three formats of the game (Test, One Day and T20), and go into the tournament after a meticulous preparation.
Strengths: The Proteas have arguably the strongest team on paper with depth in all areas, in particular the bowling department with the pace bowling of Steyn and the Morkel brothers and the spin of Peterson and Botha.
Weaknesses: It is a bit of a cliche, but South Africa's main weakness may in their own heads. They have an unfortunate history in major tournments of 'choking' especially when favoured to do well, as they are in this World Cup.
South Africa shouldn't have any trouble getting out of its group, but due the unusual seedings could be grouped with Australia, India and Pakistan in the Super Eights which appears the tougher of the two groups. South Africa would be viewing the semi-finals as a pass mark.
