MOST VALUABLE PLAYER OF THE TOURNAMENT

Throughout the tournament we have been awarding votes on a 3-2-1 basis in recognition of outstanding on-field performance. Now that the World Cup has been run and won by the West Indies, we can reveal our Twenty20 MVP!
The most valuable player according to our calculations was Shane Watson of Australia with 12 votes, followed by the Yuvraj Singh from India with 7 votes, with England's Luke Wright and Sri Lankan captain Mahela Jayawardene tied for third on 6. The full standings can be found here.

Incidentally, Shane Watson was also named the official World Twenty20 player of tournament, which either highlights our credentials as astute analysts of the game, or the fact that the choice was blindingly obvious.
Watson dominated with bat and the bowl. The opener topped the run scoring list with 249 at an average of 49.80 which include three half centuries. He also claimed 11 wickets at 16.00, second on the bowling list.  After the tournament he said" it's an honor to be named as the player of the tournament,".  Shane Watson best perfomance was against South Africa, with 70 off 47 deliveries which followed his 2-29 with the ball.
Another of his best games in the tournament was against Ireland.

The Australian all-rounder frequently opened the bowling. He also closed the bowling. He was vice-captain, led in the field, made a half centuries off just 30 balls and was named man of the match on four occasions.
Now that's top performance from an all rounder.

Watson performed in all his matches but in one of the other matches that he stood was against India, he demolished their spin bowlers. Watson made 72 fast runs off 55 balls in a 133-run opening stand with David Warner, braking their own national record. Watson hit the biggest sixes of the tournament against India.

Shane Watson's value to his team was perhaps best evidenced by his rare failures in the tournament. His extra-ordinary form papered over the cracks in an Australian team which would not have got nearly as far in the tournament without him. Well played Watto.
